Development of a Scale Model Wind Turbine for Offshore Floating Turbine Systems

Heather R. Martin, Civil and Structural Engineering graduate candidate at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, presented a seminar titled “Development of a Scale Model Wind Turbine for Offshore Floating Turbine Systems” on April 28. She described her research and development of the 1:50th scale model wind turbine, including how she and her advisors overcame the challenges behind blade design, nacelle fabrication and instrumentation, and model construction. The model turbine and three model floating platforms are currently undergoing testing at MARIN, a marine wave basin research facility in The Netherlands.
