Orono, Maine – The University of Maine-led DeepCwind Consortium is issuing a Prequalification Questionnaire to identify qualified concept designers for a prototype testing and evaluation program of floating wind platform designs. The deadline for responses to the Prequalification Questionnaire is July 20, 2010.
Following review of the Prequalification Questionnaires, the DeepCwind Consortium will release a Request for Proposals (RFP) to qualified designers to perform preliminary engineering of an intermediate scale prototype floating wind turbine platform to be deployed in the Gulf of Maine for testing and evaluation. DeepCwind will be performing the detailed engineering, fabrication, and deployment of the prototype. This research is funded by the Department of Energy and the State of Maine.

AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites is an award-winning research facility at the University of Maine. In the past year it has been awarded nearly $40 million in funding to pursue research in deepwater offshore wind energy technology. AEWC Director Dr. Habib Dagher is the Principal Investigator of the DeepCwind Consortium.
